Traditional Chinese Medicine - Diagnosis

When you come to see me I will make a complete diagnosis which will involve asking you a lot of questions about your condition, both physical and emotional symptoms and your medical history. Your digestion, diet, sleep patterns and lifestyle.

I will also examine your tongue and take your wrist pulses - (which are a more detailed indicator of the condition of the various organs than the single pulse taken in Western medicine).

Getting the correct diagnosis is a crucial part of Traditional Chinese Medicine and will help me to decide the correct course of treatment you will require.

  • The Wrist Pulses - Your wrist pulses allow me to find out how your Qi is flowing. There are three pulse positions on each wrist and two different levels corresponding to the different organs and their functions.
  • Examination of the tongue. - Accessing the colour, quality and coating, enables me to understand what is happening in the body.

Being and non-being produce each other;
Difficult and easy complete each other;
Long and short contrast each other;
High and low distinguish each other;
Sound and voice harmonise each other;
Front and back follow each other.
